The Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics is concerned with facial growth and development of the dentition and occlusion. Interception, prevention and correction of occlusal anomalies are the flagship treatment protocols of the department. Since its inception it has been engaged in research, teaching and patient care.

Our department has been designed to satisfy the needs of those who wish to acquire greater skills, knowledge and experience in endodontics, as well as a background in biological sciences. Aesthetic dentistry wins the heart of patients by integrating art and science of dentistry with the beauty of what is natural through smile design, ceramic veneers, crowns, bleaching and tooth coloured restorations.

The undergraduate training programme contains didactic, practical and clinical components where an evidence-based approach to diagnosis and treatment planning is emphasized throughout the program as per the highest ethical standards.

  • Clinical examination of patients
  • Supplementary diagnostic procedures
  • Group discussions, journal discussions, seminars, CDE programmes, inter department clinical clubs are part of the curriculum.

Apart from the undergraduate programme the skilled faculty also treats various orthodontic cases using fixed orthodontic appliances such as straight wire appliances [ceramic brackets, self-ligating brackets, ceramics self-ligating brackets] Begg appliance, lingual orthodontics, aligners, cleft lip and palate treatment.

Department in close coordination with the department of oral and maxilla facial surgery provides orthodontic and orthognathic surgery for patients with skeletal malocclusion and craniofacial deformities.

The department also works in with other departments to provide comprehensive dental rehabilitation of patients.

The mission of the department is to train students to be proficient in clinical speciality of orthodontics at their respective level and provide state of the art of treatment to all our patients.


Skills to be developed by the end of teaching are to examine a routine swelling, ulcer and other related disease and to perform minor surgical procedures such as draining an abscess, taking biopsy etc.
