Pathology is the study of structural and functional changes in cells, tissues and organs in various diseases. It plays an important role in bridging basic science & clinical practice.
The Department of General Pathology at RVS Dental College & Hospital strives to help students Comprehend the various concepts of General and Systemic Pathology.
The curriculum is based on guidance given by Dental Council of India and Dr. MGR Medical University. General Pathology topics include Cell injury & adaptations, Inflammation, Wound healing, Fluid & Circulatory disturbances, Basic Genetics, Immunity, Nutritional pathology and Neoplasia and are taught in great detail. Special importance is given to Systemic Pathology including Heart & blood vessels, Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension, Haematology, Salivary glands & Bone. Our lectures emphasise the importance of the etiology, pathogenesis, morphologic changes and clinical ignificance of diseases. The theory sessions are held in a spacious and well equipped lecture hall with the help of power point slides.
The Department of General Pathology takes utmost care in training the students in haematology experiments like Blood grouping, Haemoglobin estimation & Differential count, urine examination for various abnormal chemical constituents, interpretation of histopathology slides, macroscopic examination of specimens, charts & instruments. The students are always encouraged to think and act in clinical case based scenarios during theory & practical sessions. Our laboratory is well equipped.
