The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery conducted the Clinical Society Meeting on April 1, 2025, featuring an enlightening presentation on the topic:
“Surgical Management of Maxillofacial Trauma in HIV‑Positive Patients.”
The presentation was delivered by Dr. Arun Dheepan. P, 3rd year postgraduate student, under the guidance of Dr. T. Vigneswaran, Professor & Head, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
The session explored:
– Preoperative evaluation (CD4 count, viral load, and co morbiditiesA)
– Surgical timing and considerations in immune compromised patients
– Infection control protocols and occupational safety
– Appropriate fixation materials and surgical techniques
– Postoperative management including ART continuation and antibiotic strategies
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty, postgraduates, and interns, and concluded with an interactive Q&A and group discussion.
