Topic: Drug induced orodental reactions

Every drug can produce untoward consequences, even when used according to standard or recommended methods of administration.Adverse drug reactions can involve every organ and system of the body and are frequently mistaken for signs of underlying disease. Similarly, the mouth and associated structures can be affected by many drugs or chemicals.

Different categories of ADRs involving Oral mucosa and tongue, Periodontal tissues, Dental structures, Salivary glands, Cleft lip and palate,Muscular and neurological disorders, Taste disturbances, Drug-induced oral infection, and Facial edema were detailed in the meeting. Interns presented the mechanisms of the adverse drug reactions, manifestations of various reactions, treatment modalities, case reports, and differential diagnosis of common drug induced oro-dental reactions. Methods of preventing these reactions by rational use of drugs were also discussed.

The meeting was chaired by Dr. Vijay V.K., Principal, RVS Dental College & Hospital, began at 2:00 PM. All the department heads and faculty members, postgraduates, interns and students attended the meeting. The meeting concluded with an open discussion on the topic with the attendees and distribution of certificate to the presenters.
