World Oral Health Day is annually celebrated on March 20th every year to promote awareness about oral hygiene and disease prevention. This year’s theme was “A Happy Mouth is a Happy Life,” emphasizing the link between oral and overall health.
With the blessings of our chairman, Thiru Dr KV Kupusamy ayya, under the guidance of our director cum principal Dr Vijay V K and Dr Deepshika Saravanan, Head of the Department, the Department of Periodontology and Implantology at RVS Dental College and Hospital collaborated with the Indian Society of Periodontology (ISP) in a nationwide campaign involving 160 colleges, sponsored by Sensodyne. The campaign ran from March 3 to March 23, during which IEC brochures, posters, toothbrushes, and toothpastes were distributed across the campus and to patients.
Awareness activities included the display of posters, distribution of patient information leaflets, and provision of oral care materials to encourage proper hygiene practices. Multiple events were conducted, including an oath-taking ceremony for dentists and a separate oath for patients to promote responsibility towards oral health.
A public awareness rally involving faculty and students highlighted prevention of oral diseases, accompanied by pamphlet distribution. An educational skit based on the theme further reinforced the importance of oral health. A Patient Awareness Corner was inaugurated by Dr. K Jayabarathi IPS to present monthly case for patient education.
A WHO themed selfie booth added an element of fun and all attending patients received oral hygiene kits. The event gained media coverage by Sulur media. Overall, the program successfully raised awareness, encouraged preventive practices, and demonstrated a strong collective commitment to improving community oral health.
