ORAL HYGIENE DAY 2026 – A COMMITMENT TO HEALTHY SMILES!

The Department of Periodontology and Implantology, RVS Dental College & Hospital celebrated Oral Hygiene Day 2026 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr G.B.Shankwalkar, Founder president of Indian Society of Periodontology.
In commemoration with Oral Hygiene Day 2026, the department conducted a series of academic and community outreach programmes on 30th and 31st July 2026 under the guidance of Dr. Vijay V. K., Director-cum-Principal, and Prof. Dr. Deepshika Saravanan, Professor & Head, Department of Periodontology and Implantology.
The observance commenced on 30th July with the inauguration by Chief Engineer Mr. Balachander and Dr. Vijay V. K., followed by the launch of a Mega Free Scaling Campwhich was published inThe Hindu newspaper on 30th July and received overwhelming response from the public with a total of 390 patients benefited from free scaling, periodontal screening, and oral health education on the inaugural day.
On 31st July, a National Oral Hygiene Day Rally was conducted to promote awareness of oral hygiene and periodontal health. Toothpaste and educational pamphlets were distributed to the public. The academic programme featured a guest lecture by Prof. Dr. Shauna Culshaw, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons University of glasgow, Scotland,UK, on "Classification, Diagnosis and Treatment Guidelines." Prof. Dr. Deepshika Saravanan presented the Oral Hygiene Day Report, highlighting the success of the programme and its community impact.
The celebrations concluded with the felicitation of the dignitaries, event coordinators, and students for their contributions. The Free Scaling Camp will continue until 8th August 2026, reaffirming the department's commitment to "Healthy Gums... Healthy Smile... Healthy Life."
