NATIONAL ORAL PATHOLOGISTS DAY CELEBRATION

The NATIONAL ORAL PATHOLOGISTS DAY which falls on 25th February 2024 was celebrated by the Department of Oral Pathology and Oral Microbiology, RVS Dental College and Hospital with a week full of events and a Webinar on Forensic Odontology. On account of NATIONAL ORAL PATHOLOGIST’S DAY, a screening and treatment camp was conducted along with the Department of Public Health Dentistry at RVS temple premises on 9th February 2024. The camp started around 10am. A team of interns headed by Dr.Kavitha (HOD of Department), and assisted by Dr.Sathya, Dr.Gowri Shankar and Dr.Pradeepan rendered oral healthcare to the public. Oral screening and dental treatment like scaling and extraction of teeth was provided for people who attended the camp. The patients in need of further dental treatment were advised with referral to RVS Dental College & Hospital. This was followed on with various competitions like, Soap carving, Drawing and Photography. The students actively participated in these events with enthusiasm and won prizes.

              To commemorate this day, a Webinar was conducted on 26th February 2024. The event started at 10am with the blessings of our Beloved Chairman Kalvithanthai Dr.K.V.Kuppusamy Ayya, RVS Group of Institutions, and with the guidance of Dr.V.K.Vijay( Director-cum Principal), Dr.Kavitha (HOD of Department), Dr.Sathya and Dr.Gowri Shankar. A comprehensive talk on “Forensic Odontology – Introduction and Scope” was given by Dr. Jayasankar P. Pillai, an eminent Forensic Odontologist from Govt. Dental College, Ahmedabad. The event was concluded with a question session where students put forth their doubts regarding a career on Forensic Odontology. The Speaker had given very precise and clear guidance to students on the courses available and career prospects as Forensic Odontologist. The event was concluded with prize distribution and a snacks break. Overall the celebration was fruitful to the undergraduate dental students.
